Label value every dimension of an overflow series carries, e.g. actor_mailbox_dropped_total{path="__overflow__",reason="__overflow__"}.

A value, deliberately, not a label name: Prometheus reserves label names beginning with __ for its own use and drops them after relabeling, so an __overflow__="1" name would vanish on ingestion and collapse the overflow series onto a real one. Label values are unrestricted, so the marker survives the scrape and stays greppable in an alert rule ({path="__overflow__"}).
